HIKE 04: Oyster Dome (Bellingham, WA)

My brother scored tickets to hike the enchantments this September 2021 and I’m going on a bunch of hikes to get my butt in shape. Will be documenting and reviewing these hikes and talking about the gear I’m using.

Hike 04: Oyster Dome (Bellingham, WA)

May 8, 2021

Length: 5 miles round trip

Gain: 1050 ft.

Highest Point: 2025 ft

More info

Second hike in a row, this time with a small group of friends. This easy (closer to intermediate) hike up through somewhat interesting green forest in the Chuckanut area/Blanchard Mountain led to a rocky point with *incredible* views of Skagit River flats and the San Juan Islands with Vancouver Island and the Olympic Mountains in the distance. This was a very popular hike especially among the *youths*, like there was a rave at the top.

GEAR:

REI Stormbolt Rain Jacket ($279)

A replacement for my last jacket that did not keep me dry. Didn't get a chance to use it, but from what it feels like, it should do a much better job in the rain.

Patagonia Nano Puff ($200)

Love these jackets. I had a blue one, but too small for me right now. I FELT LIKE A SAUSAGE IN IT (ugh), so I bought a larger size.

Garmin Solar Instict Watch ($399)

Altitude, barometer, compass, carolrie counter, GPS, steps, heart rate, oximeter all in one watch.

Russell Dri-fit shirt ($12)

Seems good so far.

Hoka One Hiking Boots ($220)

Still feels great. A little bounce makes me feel like I've got Jordans on.

Costco Carbon Fiber Polls ($30)

Great, especially for the price.
